It was all about bright, white light and endless conversation at BreakfastClub in the sundrenched space of James Beard nominated chef Renee Erickson’s Seattle restaurant The Whale Wins.
Creatives and food entrepreneurs like stylist and photographer Aran Goyoaga of Canelle et Vanille and Lissa James, founder of Hama Hama Shellfish Company chatted the morning away over Stumptown coffee and noosa yoghurt (we loved it dusted with za’atar, a swirl of local Sea Creatures honey and a scoop of toasted walnuts). All hands reached to try each flavor of Erickson’s cheerily chubby ‘General Porpoise Doughnuts’ stuffed with vanilla custard, plum jam and roasted lemon curd. From sweet we went to seriously savory, licking our fingers to get every bit of saffron aioli from the poached egg on grilled Seawolf bread with sliced tomatoes and green herbs.
The table centerpiece also doubled as a gift: guests pulled paper-wrapped bouquets of handmade dried wildflowers or fresh mixed dahlias from funky hotel ice buckets as a takeaway.
